Love the outdoors…hate the outdoors.
Most dogs will tell you, they LOVE going for walks, I do too but far out man, geez mum why did you have to take this epic walk today?!
I know it wasn’t raining or anything and we had blue sky, but c’mon I didn’t count on such a long walk today. Mum, thought it was a good idea to get walking again to clock up steps on her fitbit. What is a fitbit? I don’t know. Some human thing that makes you walk more I think. I’d do well with a chillbit. I’d win every challenge.
Apparently, she’s been slack and I’ve been just chillin’ on the couch….and on their bed (and yeah they know, don’t have to dob me in). Anyway, it’s been too cold to go out and too wet. And I don’t like getting rained on. I’m not prissy, I just like to stay dry.
Being Teddy Dog
Mmmm sniffin’ yeah I love to sniff , I’m a dog remember, that’s why I like new places. New smells and new dogs to say hello to. But you know what I love the most? I love that I get more cuddles and pats from random strangers, people who dont know The Ted!.
With a casual swagger and a nonchalant attitude, my honey coloured fluff that covers my body makes me adorable and cuddle worthy, if I do say so myself. I’m just really casual and I don’t come across as some desperate dog, like the others, wagging their tails excitedly, jumpin’ ‘n’ lickin’ ahhh what’s all the fuss it’s just a human, go up to them and they’ll pat you anyway right?
So on our walk I see ducks….
…. and swans and other water birds too. Mum and I were walking along the boardwalk when we spotted them nesting. Don’t ask me what type of birds or ducks they are or what they’re called, I just know they were black and brown. My colour range as a dog is quite limited, dam those dog eyes, and also because I don’t really have an interest in birds and I don’t read bird books, I have no clue what they were. Lucky for me there was scenery, mum stopped to take pics which meant I could rest, yeah, a bit of basking in the sun rollin’ around scratching my back in the timber decking. Nice!
Honky Nut Clusters?
Shhhhh please don’t tell mum I told you this, but whilst we were walking down the bush trail, she was talking outloud to me about trying to find a piece of bark. Well, there’s plenty of twigs, leaves and bark everywhere, and those honky nuts things! She’d already picked up a few but they weren’t quite right. It had to be the right one. I could see her scanning the ground as I dawdled behind her (I’m not a fast walker, I’m more of a plodder). In fact, if you want to know the trruth, I was panting and we’d only started our walk. My tongue was dripping with sweat and all I wanted to do was to lay in the shade or have someone carry me home. When I was a kid we used to walk around the Swan River every weekend and I had heaps more stamina and endurance then. Oh yeah you should have seen me! I’d run like 15 meters or something sometimes!
But now, I seriously need to improve on my cardio! It’s all the couch surfing I do.
Mum had to put me on the lead a few times for me to keep up the pace. It worked. I walked faster with a bounce and spring, like I was young again.
Back to the bark…
So she was checking out the ground for a piece of bark, she spotted a cluster of honky nuts that looked rather textured and the right colour to sketch. So as she’s walking over to them, (remembering that we’re on a trail densely surrounded by bush and shrubs) and not quite squatting she gestured her right arm and hand forward as if to reach for the cluster of honky nuts, then suddenly pulling back, I saw her shaking her head and screwing up her face, mumbling something to herself.
I’m a dog right? so I do dog things like sniff things….and I smell things from great distances. I’m like Bionic Dog! Just call me The Ted ……Yeahhhh!!
Ahahaha mum nearly picked a cluster of doggy doos, that just happened to look like honky nuts!! bhahahahaha!!!
Imagine if she did!! Bhahahahahaha!!! That would make an interesting sketch!!
Part of me was hoping she’d pick them up for making me take this epic walk around Lake Gwelup!
Not quite the bark she was looking for!!
Get out, get walking, improve your cardio, improve your mental and physical health, its good for you, your dog your human and your family. And more importantly know your barks and know your nuts!
