Us Urban Sketchers need to eat too!
We thought we’d try something different this time and organise a “sketch eat” . Some sketchers had never tried yum cha before and quite a few follow me on facebook and often see my foodie posts of me and my parents.
I picked my favourite yum cha restaurant , Dragon Palace on Francis Street in Northbridge . I’ve been coming here for years with my family and friends and they not only look after the elderly very well ( I say this because my parents are quite old and require assistance), but I consider their variety of dim sum to be diverse.
Who’s idea was it to sketch eat anyway?!!
It’s actually very challenging to sketch and eat , especially for a foodie like me!
The good thing about yum cha is that the dim sum comes in small serves and you can always order another serve…because someone will eat it!
The event was actually a new cultural experience for most of our sketchers, our yum cha education ranging from the best way to use chop sticks, to what each dim sum dish was, to the Chinese tea serving/pouring etiquette. Using chopsticks proved to be a little challenging for some who immediately opted for forks. Quite strange how no one wanted to eat the chickens feet or the tripe. Not sure why that would be?!! 🙂
Not so Lazy Suzy
Our lazy suzy wasn’t overly lazy this morning. It got a pretty good workout. By the time I got sketching there wasn’t much dim sum left 😆 .Priorities first right?! Eat first sketch later? Today’s sketch meet up was so much fun we all agreed that our Sketch Eat sessions should be bi monthly 😉.
Watching everyone sketch as the lazy suzy turned clockwise, then anti clockwise and back again , was amusing as some sketchers were ready to sample their “still life” and others were hastily attempting to finish their sketch before suzy made another round.
Stay posted for our next sketch eat!
