As an artist and retired psychologist, and new to the field of writing I struggle at times with inspiration and motivation.
I see and read other writers works and wonder if there is a magic pen that they write with. I feel similar with my art, sketching and fitness.
What is it that established artist and writers have, that I don’t? What makes them special, talented, and just so good at what they do?
I wish I was born with the it! Whatever the it is. I wish my childhood was different. If I knew back then what I know now. How many times have we thought all those things?! When I sit at my creative desk these are my pondering thoughts.
There was a long pause in my reflections and thoughts . And then a realisation ……
The magic blueprint is simple :
and a never give up attitude and routine….. and committing to that routine!
Doing the things you say you were going to do long after the feeling wanting to do it has gone.
The daily habits of doing the boring mundane things is the key. It’s that magical element that makes them an “overnight” success. And 10,000 hours of practice!
The magic is in the mundane!
Doesn’t sound too exciting nor profound. But it’s what got them to where they are now.
I am committing to the mundane and staying on the path to be the expert, to be better than I was yesterday. It’s about the progress I make daily and my daily habits. They may be subtle and I might not notice them now but when I look back I will notice the change, the growth and development, and how I’ve become a better writer, artist, and climber.
What will you commit to? What do you want to get better at?
