Last year I wrote a post on 18 Things I’ll Do in 2018.
This year 19 things for 2019.
I have to admit I wasn’t hugely successful with last year’s list, I’m pretty sure it’s because I didn’t stick my list up where I could be reminded of them daily. This year this list will be going on my fridge and my pin up board.
1. . THE THREE Cs : CONSISTENCY , COMMITMENT , COMPLETION
I decided that my words for this year will be Consistency, Commitment and Completion, three attributes that I’ve had challenges with in the past. My intention is to apply this to all tasks and aspects of my life.
2. ATTEMPT MORE CHALLENGING CLIMBS
Now that I am back rock climbing and feeling more confident and strong on the walls I want to do more challenging climbs indoors and I nervously say, outdoors.
3. STICK TO MY GYM PROGRAM AT LEAST 3X PER WEEK
I already attend the gym once to 3 times a week but there are some days when I don’t feel like going (I think you know what I mean). So my strategy is to use the Tranerize App my trainer suggested to keep track and stay focused.
Since starting the gym late last year I have experienced positive effects in my everyday activities and especially noticeable in my climbing abilities, which I’m extremely happy about.
4. DEVELOP A CREATIVE WRITING HABIT
I’ve had a stop start attitude to creative writing and yet it’s always been something I wanted to do but never truly embarked on.
I’m very fortunate that I have a few writer and author friends who are not only talented and inspiring but also encouraging and very supportive.
So if you don’t mind being the recipient of my creative stories here on this blog as I bumble my way through learning to writing creatively, I’d greatly appreciate it.
5. LEARN TO PLAY A SONG ON THE GUITAR
I refused to give away my guitar I received as a birthday present over 20 years ago because I believed that one day I will learn to play a song or two. I had guitar lessons when I first got my guitar but I never stuck with it.
Hmmm, imagine where I would be today?!
Whilst visiting my mother’s neighbour the other day I discovered that she teaches and that one of her students’ is 88yo .
It’s never too late and your never too old! 🙂
It’s time to dust off my guitar!
6. RUN A SKETCHING WORKSHOP
I’ve been saying this for the past few years (and although I’ve been invited to run 2 sketching workshops – which were fun to do, I have never run one of my own through my own initiative).
7. ATTEND MONTHLY MEDITATION
It’s been quite a few years since I’ve attended mediation at the Buddhist Centre on a Friday evening. I keep saying I want to go back but I haven’t done.
Currently, I meditate in my “sanctuary”on my own.
8. JOIN A YOGA CLASS
I recently hurt my back at the gym and it was evident to me that with all the gym workouts I’ve been doing my flexibility and mobility isn’t like what it used to be. I’m not going to blame age because that’s just a poor excuse, I will just blame neglect.
I’m tight all over!
I could be moving better with flow and ease.
A regular yoga class would relax me, keep me mobile and centred.
9. COMPLETE DIPLOMA OF HOLISTIC HEALTH, NUTRITION & LIFE COACHING
I’ve been toying with the idea of going back to coaching. It was something I loved doing and I’ve had a lot of positive results with the people I’ve worked with. I enjoy working with people and helping them be the best versions of themselves, helping them gain clarity and direction, and empowering them to achieve their goals with renewed enthusiasm, and helping them rediscover their passions in a holistic way.
I felt that I needed a refresher and to be in the coaching space again so I have decided to enroll in the Diploma of Holistic Health, Nutrition & Life Coaching course which I intend to complete by the end of the year.
10. LEARN TO SHUFFLE DANCE
I love to dance and get my groove on.
Letting loose and getting lost in the music is my way of turning off from daily life have to’s. And it just feels good!
I want to learn to shuffle dance for the FUN factor!
11. SKETCH THE EVERYDAY
My sketching has almost been non existent for the past year. I love my sketching, especially urban sketching, capturing the essence of the scene that surrounds me.
Sketching is a mindfulness activity that keeps me grounded and quietens my mind.
Sketching the everyday and keeping my sketches simple is how I would like to fill up my sketch book this year, documenting my daily life through my sketches.
12. REGISTER FOR JEFF GOINS 31 DAY 500 WORD CHALLENGE
Jeff Goins (Writer & Author) has a 31 days 500 words writing challenge. In order for me to develop a daily writing habit and to exercise all of my Three Cs (see Thing No. 1 – above) I thought it would be the perfect activity for me to do.
To be honest I was reluctant to add this to this list knowing my past history with commitment. But hey! Let’s Do IT!
Wish me luck!
13. READ TWO BOOKS EVERY 6 WEEKS
Since I started my own book club last year where we all agreed to meet once ever 6 weeks and a person choose a book for all of us to read, reading a book a month is now doable for me (in the past I’ve always considered myself to be a very slow reader or not much of a reader at all, especially of fiction books).
I think every 6 weeks for 2 books is a realistic goal.
14. BEACH WALKING ON SUNNY WINTERY DAYS
I live so close to the beach where I could easily do that but yet I haven’t done as much as I would like to. And Perth weather has been pretty much close to perfect since Summer last year.
15. CONSISTENTLY WORK ON MY PROFESSIONAL SELF
This part of myself I have neglected for a while, due to daughterly duties and family responsibilities.
I would like to begin focusing on this aspect of my life for 2019.
16 . ATTEND MORE CULTURAL AND PERFORMING ARTS EVENTS
It’s so easy to get caught up in the daily doings of life and forgetting to engage in the things you enjoy and love to do.
The performing arts and cultural event will be a high priority on my list this year . I already have The Book of Mormons booked for later in the year, I just need a few more to fill up the calendar.
17. REDUCE REFINED SUGAR INTAKE
I always knew that I had a sweet tooth but I didn’t realise how much until I started tracking.
OH MY!!!! that’s all I have to say.
I’m doing it not only for my physical health but for my mental health. I want a clearer less foggy mind.
18. LEARN TO SALSA DANCE
As I said earlier I enjoy dancing. Salsa dancing hasn’t just been on my recent list but on a list that has existed from many years ago. Having recently made some Colombian friends who are natural salsa dancers I’m inspired to learn and just have a good time.
19. LEARN SOME CONVERSATIONAL SPANISH
A few years ago I enrolled in a term of Beginners Spanish , I only managed to attend 5 classes then life happened and catching up became too difficult. Added to the fact that I didn’t have a trip to Spain planned in the near future and I didn’t have any Spanish speaking friends, it was almost pointless. But now I have quite a few new Spanish speaking friends I have plenty of opportunity to practice whilst I learn to Salsa dance 🙂
My bonus thing for 2019
20. LESS SCREEN TIME MORE GREEN TIME
I love the feel of soft grass on my feet , I love the feel of cool white beach sand between my toes, I love the sound of birds chirping in the trees, I love watching the flow of water falling , and yet I’ve spent more time looking at these things I love on my screen.
I’ve noticed over the past few years how easy it has been for me to get sucked into the vortex of social media, online courses, YouTube, NetFlix , Foxtel and mindless scrolling.
It’s time to make a change.
What does your 19 things for 2019 list consist of?
